Making a read based play @ 2/4
Background, I haven't played a hand yet, and I've played about 2 orbits. The one major thing that I have picked up on is that the Villian has played almost every hand since I've sat down.
Seat 1: Villian, Button ($305.10 in chips) Seat 2: SB ($50 in chips) Seat 3: Hero, BB [ 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img],K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ] ($95 in chips) Seat 4: UTG ($147 in chips) Seat 5: UTG+1 ($216 in chips) Seat 7: MP1 ($105 in chips) Seat 8: MP2 ($132.60 in chips) Seat 9: MP3($41.80 in chips) Seat 10: CO ($85.35 in chips) ANTES/BLINDS SB posts blind ($1), Hero posts blind ($2). PRE-FLOP UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls $2, MP2 folds, MP3 calls $2, CO calls $2, Villian calls $2, SB calls $1, Hero checks. FLOP [board cards 6D,7C,QC ] SB checks, Hero checks, MP1 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks, Villian bets $2, SB folds, Hero calls $2, MP1 folds, MP3 folds, CO folds. TURN [board cards 6D,7C,QC,10D ] Hero checks, Villian bets $4, Hero bets $8 Good move, bad move? Please tell me why. I've put him on total air here. |

your flop call be ugly. no read on him could ever make me call there.
edit: wanted to add - "air" + 4 board cards often beats K-high. |

Bad. Check/call the turn you have a decent draw (two live cards and a gutshot)getting 3-bet sucks and you are oop.If villian is on air he may check the river through and even if he bets you can showdown for the same two bets you invested on the turn.

Re: Making a read based play @ 2/4
here is my thinking. the turn brings a 10, which makes a straight with 89, and also brings a 2nd overcard if he has a 6 or 7. If he calls, I feel like I'm in a pretty good spot, and even ahead. If not, my thought is that i've got 2 overs and a straight draw.

Re: Making a read based play @ 2/4
forget about your turn play - your flop play is badbadbad.
if i saw you play this hand and show it down, i'd definitely take a note on you that you'll check/call hopeless hands on the flop and make desperate turn bluffs. |

i understand this completely. i'm (normally) a somewhat tight player. This thread for me is not necessarily about this hand in particular, but how far people take their reads.

Re: Making a read based play @ 2/4
calling the flop is still the wrong play in that case. it is a clear check raise if this guy will autobet here.

Re: Making a read based play @ 2/4
Seems like you had your mind made up on the flop you were taking a shot at the villian no matter what, becuase you called with 2 players still to act behind you.
The play you made would've been better done if you were closing the action and knew you would heads up. If you are going to bluff this, I think you should raise the flop to drive out the other two players and then bet out the turn and see what happens. |
