Default fold or call with AK here?

here's the hand - decent read on the other guy - he's fairly solid, but I've seen him commit whole stacks and all in's with 88 - so he's not afraid to gamble with his medium pair.

I raise and get reraised by a limper - at this point I thought I'd just call and see the flop - I had the position, so might as well use it -

we're about 30 players from the bubble in a 10 min round MTT - I can survive with 4 or 5 BB for a bit, so a muck is not entirely out of the question if I truly think I'm beat.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t600 (8 handed) converter

SB (t2910)
BB (t5670)
UTG (t9260)
Hero (t6635)
MP1 (t13750)
MP2 (t6669)
CO (t2065)
Button (t18094)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG calls t600, Hero raises to t2400, 6 folds, UTG raises to t4250, Hero calls t1800.

Flop: (t8750) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG bets t5010 (All-In),

I did the math -

I've got about 2.2K left and I THINK I'm getting almost 5-1 pot odds - (risk 2200 to win 10000) - and a draw to an A or K on the turn or river k comes in about a 3.5 to 1 draw by the river - so I am thinking a call here is good...but I have survived short stacked near the bubble before -

call or muck? - and can anyone give me a good reason for just pushing preflop? - I can't get him out of the hand - I can only see all 5 cards with AK - and that negates any value my position has.

Default on second thought...

this is a stupid post - obviously a call is good here...too far from the bubble to make a difference -

let's make it hypothetical - let's say I'm five from the money - (and even with 10 min. rounds the stalling takes a LONG time to get thru it) - fold or call?

Just push preflop.

I think the only play with this hand with 11BBs is to push preflop after the UTG limper. I think you raised too much, and were committed once you bet 4BBs, so therefore you should have pushed preflop if you saw yourself calling any reraise.

If you raised 3BBs and then were reraised to 4250 you could have folded this hand if you think UTG is solid and would only make this move with AA or KK.

but my point is I know the player will also do it with any medium pair - or even A/rag - he did call a lot of all in's -

I doubled up vs him later when he raised UTG with A7 and ran into my AA

Has your opponent limp-reraised previously? Do you have a read that he'll also gamble with AK/AQ/KQ, or just pairs?

If you can answer no to both, I gotta believe him, as he is reraising you the minimum to suck you into a call. I fold preflop expecting that he has Aces or Kings, and my AK is no good. If you REALLY feel like calling, I think you had better flop a Broadway or 3 spades.

As for the rest, you have odds to call (11000:2200 or 5:1), so you can make the call assuming you are SURE he isn't holding AA or KK.

I would move allin to begin with and not raise to 2400. Your preflop raise is such a huge % of your stack. I just don't like your overall strategy here, don't manipulate the betting in a way that will have you putting in 60-75% of your stack and then folding.

This is a speed tourney, by this stage its push pre flop or fold. This is a definite push pre flop.

Default Results -

I call, obviously, and run into 88 -

I turned an A, as lone A's tend to do, and that was that.

Its "possible" that if you moved allin preflop you would have gotten 88 to fold.
