I'd say "bet the river" but I'm pretty sure you'd punch me in the nuts.

yea, people will call with such random crap that they wont bet. These sorts of checkraise attempts often end in failure unless you have some good read. They will call with anything...punish them by betting.

When the action goes bet-call, bet-call, ??, and the opponent is unknown, you really need to bet. It's when you start getting raised on other streets and you can change the representation of what you have and your opponent's likely range of hands that you can check more rivers intending to c/r, especially if they are known.

Haha, I keep telling myself I should *start* doing this more often, especially in a session where I've semi-bluffed with overcards and check/folded the river against an opponent who will always bet when checked to.
Against an unknown, why aren't you betting? |

I feel like this happens more on the turn. [/ QUOTE ] I feel like checking the turn will often get them to check behind and then fold the river, an absolute disaster for any hand strong enough to risk the free card in the first place. |

Yeah, I need to stop trying it so often too.
Boards like that one, though, make it so likely that they're on a busted draw, that the odd check-raise attempt can't go amiss. You sometimes get two bets out of a busted draw if you check, they bet, you raise and they think "Damn this guy, the cheek he has, well I'm not going to let him get the better of me with his clever clever river check-raise, I CALL!!!!" Guy. |
