I try buff raising for the first time
$2/$4, Pacific Poker
I don't have a great read on BB, honestly, because I haven't been paying enough attention. He seems to play a few too many hands and falls on the passive side, but I think he's a thinking player. Pre-Flop: Hero is UTG+1 with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (8 handed) 1 call, Hero raises, 4 fold, SB folds, BB calls, UTG calls. Flop: 6 SB, 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 handed) BB bets, UTG folds, Hero raises, BB folds. The bluff raise worked nicely this time, but I wasn't really sure what my next move would have been. If he called I think I bet on the turn, and that's the last bet I put into this pot. thoughts? |

Re: I try buff raising for the first time
Thats not a bluff, you probably have the best hand.

Re: I try buff raising for the first time
He was decently passive from what I remember, so I was giving him credit for the K. Wouldn't a smaller pair have odds to call one bet and see the turn card?

Re: I try buff raising for the first time
1) your opponents won't play perfectly, or even well
2) you usually have best hand here 3) BB is probably bluffing, or betting a hand like Q6. Giving an opponent "credit" for top pair because he bets into you is silly and will cost you many pots. |

[/ QUOTE ] If this is your thought process, then I hate the raise, since a typical "passive" player here will always bring this to showdown, especially heads-up. Only a super scared weak-tightie would ever think of folding a king here. |

Re: I try buff raising for the first time
I think if you raise in the nude you'll scare your opponents off and can take their chips.

I need some explanation/help to understand this one...
I would say the thought process is good (thinking he has a K) and the raise is bad. Other way around.
I think I'm probably wrong too , but I don't understand why. Can you explain why this is a good raise, and what Hero *should* be thinking here? |

Re: I try buff raising for the first time
Questoin: If you were BB on this flop, what range of hands are you putting Hero on? I was playing pretty tight pre-flop and a little passive (one of my many problems).
