Re: Correct way to get a free card?
Looks like a pot steal attempt from BB. I play it the same.

Re: Correct way to get a free card?
nice hand, nicer avatar. I may go to GT, but my mom's entire family went to and/or worked at UK. And Jeff Shepherd grew up next door to one of my best friends.

Thought he could go pro because of his jumping ability, but I guess it didnt pan out. Question: If the case jack doesnt hit on the river, is it correct to call down with ace high? Re: Correct way to get a free card?
That is definatly the correct way to buy a free card. I think the more interesting question is if you should be using the free card play in such a small pot when you have few outs...

[/ QUOTE ] That is a valid question, but I like it here. We have 4 jack outs and a backdoor flush draw. We also have some A outs that look decent. Who knows about our Q outs. 5.5 good solid outs, with maybe 2.5 outs between the aces and queens? That's a total guess, but not unreasonable... So let's say we have 8 outs in a pot that's 5.5 sb. I think it's worth the free card play. I'm taking the freecard on a total blank like we saw here. If we pick up a club, A, Q, or J, I would bet the turn and continue putting pressure on my opponent to fold. Nice hand. |

Re: Correct way to get a free card?
You convinced me to fold. We have four solid outs with the Js. I agree that the A and Q are worth about 2.5 outs combined. That makes 6.5 outs. For 6.5 outs the pot should have giving you about six to one to continue. We don't quite that there here (5.5 in the pot) and in a close decision when the pot is small you should tend to fold (see SSH p. 146).
