Default 1 Billion dollars or a ride on a Spaceship?

Would you go for the ride?

Would you roll the dice on your life?

To me it seems obvious that almost everyone would prefer 1 billion dollars over a trip in a space shuttle. Then why is it that so many people in the dice rolling thread are against the concept or want a really nice padding of favorable odds when almost the majority of voters in the shuttle thread are eager to go? For a billion dollars you could probably buy your way into riding the space shuttle yourself as long as you maintain the proper physical condition. Justin Timberlake tried to buy his way in, but they deemed that he was not physically healthy enough.

The odds of catastrophy occurring to the shuttle during were estimated at 1:56.5, 1:75 and 1:100 by their different sources. The majority of votes in the dice rolling thread require that the dice have 100 sides or more for them to accept the offer, so in essence it appears that either the majority of people prefer to ride the spaceship over a billion dollars or they have miscalculated the likelyhood of catastrophy.
