Default Tournament Strategy Question

In tournaments chips change value. I have read that the more chips you have the less each individual chip is worth and the less chips you have the more each individual chip is worth. However, this leads me to an interesting question. If each individual chip is worth less (because you have alot of chips) would that mean that you should gamble more (loosen up) because if you lose some chips you wouldn't care as much? Or does that mean you gambe less (tighten up) because if you gain some extra chips it wouldn't be a big deal? The same question can be asked when each individual chip is worth alot because you don't have many.

P.S. This kinda reminds me of the Is the glass half empty or half full question.
