Default Bad Beat Forum

I propose adding a Bad Beat Forum as a sub forum to the Beginner's forum.

This would be a repository for all of the bad beat hands that people want to both whine about and get advice about.

Discuss.

I voted "no," but it is far from the worst idea I have seen in a while.

Actually, I think a bad beat forum would be bad for beginners especially since they really need to learn not to dwell on results or get upset by something with a non zero probability occurring. Commiseration will, in my unfounded intuitive oppinion, deter beginners from getting over the "wallowing in self pity" stage that will cripple them as poker players.

Also, anyone with a legitimate question can post the hand up to the point where they have the question and leave it at "Hero ???" (Sometimes it will be obvious it is a thinly veiled bad beat story, but then it is not really a legitimate question.)

No. Three reasons.

1. Bad beat stories are counterproductive, since they generally reflect a lack of understanding of statistics and variance, and are often examples of self-deception in an attempt to shift responsibility for losing.

2. There is already a Bad Beat Forum.

3. A bad beat forum would quickly turn into a shooting range with open season for flaming bad beat story tellers. Oops, that's a good reason to have one. Never mind.

You miss the hidden brilliance of this idea. It would get the bad beat ("I got all in with aces preflop... was there a different line i should've taken?") stories out of the real forums

Unfortunately, no, it wouldn't. People will keep posting their crap in the wrong forums.

1. This is the whole point. Those posters who like to respond constructively to bad beat posts can find those threads that they specialize in and offer advice there. Additionally, most bad beat stories share the same types of mistakes so all of the people who are commiserating about their rotten luck can be exposed to the probable problems with their play simultaneously.

2. NH

3. Actually, I was hoping it would prevent that kind of posting. Why would you bother going to the bad beat forum knowing that what you would find there was a bunch of whining cry babies? You would have the option of ignoring the whole list of threads. Anyone who put a bad beat somewhere else, though, would definitely be open game.

A better idea would be to have a mat with different conclusions that people could jump to.
