Default New Multi-tabler

So here's the thing:

I've been a one-table guy up until now, but I recently had to withdrawl a good chunk of my bankroll to pay for my graduate school courses this fall.

I found myself left with about $2000.

Recently I've been playing mostly 3/6, some full, some short.

I want money.

I'm considering trying to play 3 or 4 tables of the 1/2 6-max. I tried 3 tables this morning for the first time and was a little befuddled.

Who has some good tips for me?

Also, should I pony up the $50 for PlayerView? (Up until now I've just been using the free version, since I was only playing one table.)

Do you guys like this idea, or do you think I should stick to playing one table at a bigger limit?

Thanks.

I'm a closet one-tabler too. I've managed to two table 6-max when clearing bonii, but that's about it. I think it helps to start at one table, get a feel for it, then gradually add more.

And don't buy PlayerView. PokerAce is as good or better, and it's free.

If you were going to multi-table, I'd say start out with two, then once you get comfortable, work up to 3, then 4. Also, playing full tables will make it a lot easier on you, until you figure out what you're doing.

If you are used to full table I would start out multitabling at 1/2 full. Start with 2 tables, wait until you get good reads on your opponents and that they are tables that are worth playing, and then start a 3rd or 4th table. Use PokerAce and constantly make sure that the tables are worth playing, i.e. losts of loose calling stations. I probably would work on my 6-max game one tabling a bit b4 moving up multitabling the 6max.

Start with two tables until you are comfortable. Then add a third.

6-max is quite tough to play 4 tables of IMO. The plays are so read dependent that you give up a lot going into auto-pilot mode which is what multi-tabling is all about. I usually open two tables and get good reads and if I'm feeling comfortable open a third. I usually start losing my reads when I open the 4th table so I only do that if a bonus is about to expire and I need raked hands fast.

Tiltaholic just informed me about poker ace last night and after using it for 2 minutes I decided to get rid of gametime+ which was what I had used before that. Poker ace is the bomb and it's free. It reveals mucked cards immediately at the end of the hand and you don't have to tell it what tables you are on.... it knows!

* edited to say definitely get a big LCD monitor if you want to multitable (if you don't have one of course). Overlap will hurt your winrate. I also recommend getting two monitors so you can have more desktop space for web surfing and porn.

Unless I'm bonus-clearing, I play one table. I find that my winrate is MUCH better (disregarding the 5BB/100 I get clearing a $100 bonus at .5/1 on Party skins) and I have more fun playing. I am also able to do other things (post here, make plane reservations, pay bills, etc.) while I'm only on one table.

When I multi-table to clear a bonus I use PT or whatever, because otherwise you have no reads at all.

4-tabling .5/1 6max to clear the most recent Empire bonus I think gave me a little bit of brain damage, but I'm not shoore.

I can't believe that I, as a regular reader of both the micro and small stakes forums, was the last to know about PokerAce.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

I think I might try two tables of 6-max to begin with. I should be able to handle that alright. Since I started playing shorthanded I'm really not a fan of a full table, but if it gets to be too much I'll likely switch back.

Keep the tips coming if you have anymore.

I was a little concerned abot PokerAce because of that big witch hunt from pokerextreme a few months ago. Are we sure that pokerace is on the 'approved' software list for Party n' friends?
