Default Cardplayer POY award

As most people know, John Phan is currently in 1st for the Cardplayer Player of the Year award. After looking through his results, it seems the system is pretty flawed. Afterall, he has not had one huge win this year and got the majority of his points from a 2,500 dollar buyin tournament. Comparing his year to Phil Ivey's would be pointless but since Phil Ivey received no pts for his 2 Monte Carlo wins last week, he didn't move up.

What is everyone elses view on this?

Doesn't (and shouldn't) really matter if you have any big wins or not. What matters most is consistency and Phan has made quite a few final tables.

While Ivey shouldn't get anything for winning the FTP Invitational in POY rankings, not getting anything for the MCM tourney is rather silly.

From what i have read, it seems as though John Pham is the player of the year for 2005. He is always going deep in tournies and we all should understand how much luck it takes to win one of those big tournies.

I am persoanlly happy that someone could win the player of the year without actually winning a big tourney. Afterall winning a big MTT has little to do with over all skill int he long run.
