Default \"Another Great Bush Administration Moment\"

From Josh Marshall:

In this morning's gaggle, Scott McClellan got asked whether the teleconference the president had with troops in Tikrit was scripted. Here's what he said ...

QUESTION: How were they selected, and are their comments to the president pre-screened, any questions or anything...

MCCLELLAN: No.

QUESTION: Not at all?

MCCLELLAN: This is a back-and-forth.

Here's how the pool report (i.e., from the designated reporter on the scene) described what happened.

The soldiers, nine U.S. men and one U.S. woman, plus an Iraqi, had been tipped off in advance about the questions in the highly scripted event. Allison Barber, deputy assistant to the Secretary of Defense for internal communication, could be heard asking one soldier before the start of the event, "Who are we going to give that [question] to?"

Oh well ...

It's just a matter of time before Scott McClellan is indicted for treason.

I don't know if they were scripted...if they were, you'd expect "Mr. President, is it true that you have a 14 inch penis?"

Not to worry, I'm sure Bush has already got blanket pardons filled out for his boys.

Absolutely not. Bush is a "man of the people," and prefers common-talk, not fancy words. 'Penis' is too formal.

I'd expect, "Mr. President, is it true you're hung like a Clydesdale?"

You didn't expect Monkey Boy to actually answer questions from people willing to die for their country did you?

And you don't expect Scott McClellan to report actual facts of any event do you?

From what I understand, it is actually common practice that George Bush only responds to pre-scripted questions. During the campaigns, this was an issue, and I saw a segment on CNN today about the whole rehearsal process for today's little Q&A session.
