Default Foolish boondoggle or money well spent.

Abstinence

[ QUOTE ]
President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election insures that more federal money will flow to abstinence education that precludes discussion of birth control, even as the administration awaits evidence that the approach gets kids to refrain from sex.

...
The president has been a strong proponent of school-based sexual education that focuses on abstinence, but does not include instruction on safe sex

[/ QUOTE ]

Personally, I dont like the federal government involved in or influencing any local discussion making regarding education.

Abstinence as the only message to teens is a dumb idea anyway.

Is he really stupid enough to think this is a good idea? Or is it just a way to please other (religious nutcases) that are stupid enough to belive it?

I strongly suspect that he believes it. Specially if you consider that in the second term he has to really please no one (he cannot run again) and certainly pandering to those who will vote republican come hell or high water is not needed for GWB.

Well, morals matter more than logic and effectiveness.

I agree, though. Abstinence only programs to teens is a really dumb idea.

Abstinece works 100% of the time it is tried. You who are against abstinence are the lunkheads.

And when abstinence is ignored or untried, and the involved parties aren't educated about birth control, we get unwanted pregnancies that lead to abortions, teenage parents and horribly raised children that grow up to be assholes and criminals.

My wife is a social worker with youth in the custody of the state, and 9 out of 10 of these kids grew up with shitty, too-young parents that raised them like crap and/or abused them.

Don't be a fcuking moron. Abstinence might be ideal in your worldview, but it's not realistic, because people aren't perfect.

You're a noob if you think teens and poor people in other countries aren't going to have sex.

I'd say "Thanks for being a noob," but I really can't stand people like you.
