Raising sure beats calling....an example
This hand took place at a $1-$2 table at Party Poker. .
At the time this hand took place, I had a solid image. I had won 100% of my showdowns. Yet people still cold called my raises. Go figure On to the hand: I pick up JdQd on the button. One player posted one mp player limped and I raised. We lose the blinds and the poster. I get heads up with Tigger 23. Flop 3s 4h 9h Tigger23 leads into me, and I raise. Tigger23 calls. Turn 3s 4h 9h 7s Tigger23 checks and I gladly accept the free card and check behind. River 3s 4h 9h 7s Js Tigger23 bets, I raise Tigger23 calls and I win. Tigger has K9. Would anyone else have raised the flop? |

Would anyone else have raised the flop? [/ QUOTE ] Yes. Great play. What if you 100% missed on the river? Peace, Joe Tall |

Sometimes, I'd also fold some of the time. It's hard to saw how often I'd do each, it depends on how often I've been folding at that table. Nice play on the river. |

Then I would have folded. I did put the player on top pair top kicker, or perhaps a flush draw. |

Why don't you fold on the flop?
Passive player bets into preflop raiser, not much money in the pot, looks like an easy fold to me. In tougher games raising the flop might be the play, but in loose passive games, why fight this battle? |

So if I won the hand I would have something to post I didnt know if he had a hand or a draw. I figured I would raise to put the player to the "test". |

Re: Raising sure beats calling....an example
Great Question.
Unfortuately, to be honest I'd probably wouldn't raise. However, I'd definately lead out if I was in that situation early position. When a player bets into me, after I raise PF, I might be inclined to fold the flop and fight another day. Looks like he may have been "testing" you as well. I'm working on kicking my weak-tight demons. Sarge [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] |

Re: Raising sure beats calling....an example
Even players at this level will notice if you continually raise preflop then fold when someone bets into you on the flop. That's not good. You don't want them betting into you all the time after you raised preflop. You want to be able to take a free card when you need it. Plus, if you fold every time, you become very easy to play against.
That's why I said my play would depend on how often I've been folding. If I've folded a few times recently in this situation, I'm much more likely to raise. If I've raised the flop a few times recently, I'm much more likely to fold. |

if you continually raise preflop then fold then fold when someone [/ QUOTE ] I agree with what you are saying, but he said his image was very good. Against a lot of low limit players this is an easy laydown when I miss. Knowing which players to fold against is really the important part, imho. |

Indeed, however I did fold a lot. I do appear like the player to try moves against. I did not want a player to "experiment" against me, and I put my opponent on the top pair or a draw. |
