Funky Games to call when it\'s dealer\'s choice
Gonna be playing some dealer's choice hoem games later this december, triple draw, omaha and hold'em are the usual suspects. Any ideas for funkey games I should call, alreayd planning to introduce the group to padooki. Once got everyone to go along with playing 12-card stud (first hand we played one guy had a broadway straight showing)

Courcheval, it's like Omaha, but you deal the first community card before the first round of betting, followed by 2 to complete the flop, afterwards played like Omaha. You can play with 4 or 5 cards, but I think it's more commonly played with 5.

I always call razz or lowball cause no one else understands it and its an easy pot for me. Thermonuclear pineapple is the way to go.

Re: Funky Games to call when it\'s dealer\'s choice
Anaconda is a classic in hy homegames. Its a 7s bastard.
Each player is dealt 7 cards, he then discards 3 cards and hands them to the player on his left. He now reviews his new 7 cards, selects the best 5-card hand and places it face down on the table. Each player reveals his first downcard and a round of betting follows, this continues with a betting round per turning of the first 4 cards. Betting structure pretty much follows 7s, so there is some strategic considerations to be made in your chosen way of revealing your cards (bluff, wanting them to think you bluff, position etc.) Can also be played HI/LO. It's a game out outrageous bluffs, valiant use of reads and some good memory skills...fun stuff. Other than that, I think conventional poker wisdom tells to select games that give a strong positional advantage when holding the button (draw, hold'em, omaha etc.) |

Re: Funky Games to call when it\'s dealer\'s choice
The way I've played Anaconda,
everyone is dealt 7 cards face down- bet 3 cards past to your left-bet 2 cards past to your left -bet 1 card past your left -bet winning hands are usually low quads, mid SFs or occasionally a big boat. |

Re: Funky Games to call when it\'s dealer\'s choice
Here's one that works and is based on normal games:
Five-Seven-Nine This is a 5-card draw game that becomes a roll-your-own 7stud hi-low game (with 9-high as the qualifier for low) Ante, get 5 cards. Turn in up to 3 cards to get up to 4 back (your discards + 1 more). Bet Turn in up to 3 to get up to 4 again (you now have 7 cards). Bet Arrange your hand in a stack. For 4 rounds, turn over top card and bet (high hand must lead). You end up with 4 up cards and 3 down cards, just like 7 stud/8. Declare, then bet at the end. |
