mirrorshades
This is more on a silly side, but I'm still curious. Some players are ("as seen on TV") using mirrorshades to supposedly hide their eyes and make it difficult to get a read on them, right? But their glasses reflect everything around them, so it might be possible for someone with a good eyesight to see their pocket cards' reflection when they are looking at them? Is it really possible and what are they doing to prevent this?

Re: mirrorshades
I suppose it's possible, but unlikely.
Sunglasses are dumb, of course, but there is a valid reason to wear them. They allow you to look closely at other players without them knowing it. I don't wear them and just look at the players - I don't really care if they notice. Most players aren't observant enough to notice any tells you might give off. Some are, of course, but not many. Re: mirrorshades
In that case maybe sunglasses can be useful to pretend you're just a dumb bloke who had watched too much telly poker lately and to conceal those hundreds K of online hands
BTW, although I'm playing online now, but I wonder, is there a way for online players to prepare themselves for B&M transition, to learn not to give out at least the most obvious tells.. |

Even if they were looking somewhat up with no cap, the reflection is too small to see. Maybe you can see paint, but it's not accurate enough for an exact read. |

The biggest problem I had when I wore sunglasses for a session was confusing clubs and spades. 2nd |

Re: mirrorshades
I sometimes wear shades, sometimes I don't. I do often wear a hooded sweatshirt when I play live, it keeps them from seeing my face and neck. The pulse in the neck, no matter who you are, is hard to hide.
Going from online to live. This is very important. Make sure you bet the same way each time. I don't mean amounts, vary that to keep your opponents guessing. I mean, when you reach for chips and put them in the middle, do it the same way. Some guys cut them nicely one hand and splash them the next. An observant player will figure out what that means and exploit it, so, I reccomend, to grab a stack nicely, cut off your chips, and resume the way you were sitting. Do this with a hand and when bluffing and it will be harder for the others to notice. Watch the players when the flop comes out to see if they connect. If a player looks at his hole cards before betting the flop, watch out, he has something good. Don't grab the waitresses ass. It may be nice, round, beautiful and tempting, but they don't like it. |

Re: mirrorshades
I am still not sold on the entire sunglasses concept. I generally wear sunglasses when I play in casinos, but the truth is that I doubt they have much impact on your opponent's ability to read you.

[/ QUOTE ] Agree; I never wear them because I have to wear glasses so I can see the flop. I don't think over the long run it makes much difference. Look at the pros, some do and some don't. I don't recall ever seeing Ivey, Lederer or Brunson wearing sunglasses so there can't be a significant edge or I'm sure these guys would be exploiting it. However, if someone gets more confidence or feels less intimadated by wearing them, there go ahead. If you are into wearing all the donk regalia, then go for it |

Re: mirrorshades
Just drape a sheet over you, slide some novelty x-ray glasses (make it obvious you're examining your opponents hole cards) over the eyeholes and plop a big fuzzy Dr Seuss hat on your head. Make sure you have some surgical gloves and forceps to pick up your cards. A dental mirror works well for looking at your hand (and examining your stack) also. Most importantly, never make a sound. No one will have the slightest idea what you're up to
