Better starting hand: 9To or 6Ts?
You're on the buttom with a couple of limpers.
Just wondering what's a better starting hand? hm.. while i'm at it, is there a ranking of starting hands? if so, LINK? |

Re: Better starting hand: 9To or 6Ts?
Heads up, 9To wins 59% of the time, with 15% ties. However, the flush possibility (the difference in flushes is greater than the difference in straights) means 6Ts plays slightly better against typical starting hands. Against AQo, for example, 9To wins 36% of the time versus 38% for 6Ts. The advantage increases against more hands, but it only gets big against carefully selected examples.
Assuming you will fold after the flop without two pair or better, or a flush draw or open-ended straight draw, your chances of staying in past the flop are about 16% for both hands. But the flush draws for 6Ts are more likely to be beaten than the open-ended straight draws for 9To; and if they're not beaten they won't make as much money because they're more obvious. J87 doesn't set off alarm bells, I'm surprized if anyone stayed in with 9To. But if there are three of a suit on the board I'm cautious, I don't know you have 6Ts, you could have AQs or many other strong hands. There are several different ways to rank starting hands: by chance of beating a random hand through showdown, by chance of beating N random hands through showdown, by actual money won in real play, by strategic analysis of playing quality. Which of these are you interested in? |
