What happens if our tax professional turns out to be a retarded [censored]? I don't think mine knows what he is doing. He's making me file an automatic extension to buy more time. I hate taxes.

Exactly. ASStroglide seems to think that he's in the clear, but I'm not so sure. There are several cases where gamblers "played regularly with expectation of profit" and then filed as professional gamblers, with the help of accountants and after consulting the IRS, only to later be audited and deemed unqualified for professional gambler status and subsequently hit with big back-payments/fines/interest/legal fees/etc.

Apparently, the writen tax code leaves some room for interpretation. You'll also be shocked to learn that the accepted interpretation of these laws evolves over time.

At any rate, you and your CPA probably got it right, and even if you got it wrong, you probably won't get audited.
