Default PartyPoker New 50/100 and 100/200 tables with $5 rake: your thoughts?

The initial run of the 100/200 table was taking $3 rake. They took the table down for "maintenance" momentarily. When it came back, the rake was $5. It is also $5 on the $50/100 table. It's unclear what the rake may be reduced to shorthanded; no short games are going at the moment. The rake at $30/60 is still $3.

Will this rake last? Will this become an advertising point for other sites with 50/100 and larger games? Or will sites not want to go out of their way to point out to the 1/2 players that they're paying the same per hand as people playing 100x as large?

It doesn't suppise me in the least and I don't blame them. There are about 0 people who are going to be like "oh I don't want to play 50/100 now because the rake is 5 bucks." It's the price you pay for doing business. Now if they would get it on the other skins it would hurt less.

Yea, a rake increase of 0.02 BB really isn't worth worrying about.

The rake is about 1/100th as important as the caliber of player in those games.

I don't agree with this. I play these limits on other sites at times with a $3 rake. And these games are good. So why would I switch to paying SIGNIFICANTLY more? This is more than a typical B&M casino would charge. The only way I'd sit is if the game was UNBELIEVABLE. Just good wouldn't cut it.

Also, is there a minimum account balance to play 100-200 there or is it just a standard buy-in (1000)? I find sites that impose restrictions on sitting beyond a traditional buyin have [censored] games at these levels, so I'm curious.

Jeff

no restriction far as i could tell.

I play them too, but there isn't much game selection. The 2 dollars extra is not hurting your bottom line very much.

Forgive me from sounding like a noob but...

Isn't a 66% rake increase rather substantial? OTOH, the rake is equivalent to a .50 rake at 1/2, which is HALF of what it currently is, so mabye it's small by comparison, or the 1/2 rake is abnormally large?

I'm only talking about the lowest amount a pot is raked, btw.

No, it is the equivalent to a rake of 0.05 at .5/1 or 1/2.

The rake at 1/2 is .50, which is 1/2 the small blind. The rake of 5.00 at 100/200 is 1/20th the small blind. As a result your original post has an inaccuracy.

They only offer 2 tables of each so 30-60 will still be the game with all the action.
