Default Small flush against a possible huge bluff

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

UTG ($752.71)
MP ($295.95)
Hero ($1197.26)
Button ($598.95)
SB ($565.35)
BB ($1069.78)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $3.
2 folds, Hero calls $6, 1 fold, SB (poster) completes, BB raises to $19, Hero calls $19, SB calls $19.

Flop: ($75) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets $80, Hero raises to $160, SB folds, BB raises all-in $964.78, Hero calls $884.78.

Turn: ($2162.56) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)

River: ($2162.56) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: $2162.56

BB had been raising alot from BB with all kinds of hands. My image of him was that he was somewhat loose but aggressive.

His flop bet does not necessarily have to mean anything. I reckon this is his standard continuation bet. I raise for information and to get SB out of the pot. Then, to my amazement, he moves in.

My reasoning behind the big call was the following; He probably has Ah, because if he has that card he knows that I cannot have the nut flush or even draw to the nut flush. Hence the push. However, I think that it is a weird move with the nut flush though. Most players would have flat called or raised a smaller amount with a made flush I believe. I thought AhXx was his hand, so I get my act together and call. Is this a good call / is the reasoning behind it OK? Results later...

Hey JMA --

IMO, I imagine he'd do this with a made hand like a big pair preflop and interpreted your raise on the flop as a ploy to get a free flush card, and didn't want to get outdrawn -- a big made flush would probably smooth call you here and pot commit you on the turn. Did he actually have a hand this time like black aces (or maybe he even raised like a maniac with 44 out of the BB and flopped a set??) or do I lose my stack here along with you?

Plus, if you're going to play suited connectors anyway, why fold when you get there (or even better - flop it!) unless the board is paired or there is a four-flush?

Your thinking seems correct. Most likey the nut draw and maybe a pair , not the nut flush made.

He could have something like the Q high flush and is trying to make you pay to draw to a higher flush or full house.

His push looks a lot more like a scared overpair with/maybe without a flush draw than a hand that beats yours. Is he the type of opponent to overbet with made hands on the flop? I dont think many people would.

People write this all the time but I've never actually seen anyone explain what information they've gained.

lol soah... the information he gained is now he's up sheeet creek w/o a paddle...

but really i autocall this. sucks if you flopped flush over flush but way more often he has AAh or something of that nature. especially when he thinks he can jump on your weak ass minraise and push you out.

I'd have a hard time putting this guy on a made flush. I think you're looking at AA or KK or QQ (something like that) with a heart. I don't think I would fold this hand.

call w/o a doubt.

looks like AA or KK. Holding a [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] of course.

can't fold against the type of player you're describing. Hope you don't see a bigger flush somehow or another heart falling. If you lose, you lose. At least you'll get a read and learn something.

Default Results...

He had QsQc. I guess I should have raised to 200 or so but I figured a miniraise would give me the same information cheaper...
