Default Simple Monitor Question

My Dell 2001fp just arrived. I'd like to test it on my current laptop.

1. How do I determine if my laptop (about 2 years old) can support 1600x1200 video output?

2. Anything I need to know about actually setting it up?

Thanks,
gm

Its really easy to set up, just plug it all in like the directions say. Go to control panel, display, then change the monitor to the second option-multiple monitors, crank up the resolution on the 2001fp to 1200x1600, and you should be good.

Its all under the settings tab in display, and if you want to use both monitors and be able to drag over, click the box that says "extend my desktop on to this monitor."
