Even if he is key to winning a World series this year?

To me that is how this trade will be judged. Vasquez obviously is better for the long term but if Johnson gets it done for or 2 years and by done I mean helps win championships than it is easily worth it.

I agree, same with the prospect Brad Halsey. I saw him pitch in one of the greatest games last season. (Yankees vs. Red Sox July 1st) and was impressed at how well he pitched. He's a rookie and naturally didnt have an amazing season, but I think it's a big mistake to get rid of two young pitchers like that for a guy who's got 2 years left in his career.


Edit: and by "agree" I mean trading away Vazquez.

The thing is, you can't quantify that on this team. With all of those other stars, how can you say that one person put them over the top? Yes, if Randy wins 3 WS games, then sure, it looks like a great trade. But this team has a lot of backloaded contracts, not that George cares, and should have given Vazquez a longer look.

To save time, Steinbrenner really should have just bought the Mariners a long time ago.

I think you guys are really missing the point. The goal is to win the world series. The Yankees have a team who is capable of winning next year. Johnson is a big help in accomplishing that. Who knows what position the team will be in two or three years when Vasquez's utility will pass Johnson's.

After watching what Randy did to my Braves this year at the age of 40 (or is it 41?) holy cow, this sucks.

I dislike the Yankees immensely, and hope Johnson doesn't do well..not because of him, but because of who he's pitching for.

I wonder how the Braves are gonna do this year...I'm thinking out in the first rd of the playoffs...AGAIN.

Yes. It is short sighted. And if the Yanks can come within a pop out to left of sweeping the Sox with what they have. Overpaying like this for an over the hill (superstar) pitcher is stupid.

I'm really fed up with my team. Javy is a stud. Halsey (if he is in it)showed signs...just really [censored] stupid. Hell they will need a catcher next year too. I'm really pissed off about this [censored]. This is the early 90s all over again... Jack Clark, and Danny Tartabull bullshit. Rebuild in their own way the dynasty while STILL being the team to beat. Now they'll end up being even worse in 2 years. Great.
