Default Cashing chips from out-of-town casinos

I'm headed to Vegas this weekend and would like to use some large ($1K and $5K) chips from Commerce to transport my bankroll. Has anyone had any experiences with cashing Commerce chips at major Vegas casinos? How about cashing Vegas chips at Commerce?

Wow...forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm not too sure that any of the casinos in Vegas would cash those chips... It's a hassle cashing $100 NYNY checks in at the main cage at the MGM, and the 2 casinos are sister properties! I would check ahead first to see if they would accept those chips...and even if someone on the phone said to bring them, I would still be weary...

I wouldn't bank on it. Why not cash the chips and do a wire transfer to the casino? I wouldn't be much more comfortable carrying $5K chips around than I would carrying cash. I'd actually be more afraid I'd lose the chips than the cash.

vegas casinos don't even cash each other's chips, let alone those from the commerce. you might find players out there who would be willing to exchange bellagio chips for yours, but don't count on it. better to cash in before you go and take cash.

the commerce doesn't take chips from vegas, either.

I don't see much difference between transporting cash and some easily cashable (at the Commerce) chips.

Or go to Bank of America, deposit your money, and withdrawl in Vegas.

Or wire the money ahead to the casino.

Or take a cashier check.

Or set up credit line ahead of time at the casino.

Or be a man and just take the cash.

Yeah, I was afraid that this wouldn't be possible.

I don't have any particular qualms about carrying cash myself. My only concern was if having $15-20K on me would be a problem should I be stopped by airport security. Guess I'll just take my chances.

I too am uneasy about doing this in an airport. Wire your money to Bellagio (call them and ask to speak to the cage, they make it easy) or since this is last minute...go get some travellers checks. Or visit a branch of your bank in Vegas, etc.

I know times have changed, but I really doubt arriving at the vegas airport with $20k in cash would be considered suspicious. If you aren't comfortable taking the cash for whatever reason wiring it is really the only other sensible way to go.

you can not carry more the 10k on a plane usually. also if you keep that much in your pocket and dont "show it" it will set off the metal detectors [thus the magnetic strip in the bills now]
My sugestion, bring a check book and take a marker.

I some what agree.
Airports are a concern. Money belt would be good idea.
Large (and not so large) amounts of cash can be confiscated.

However, it is not illegal to carry large amounts of cash, there is no $10,000 restriction.

And you have to have a lot more than $15,000 to set off a metal detector (urban myth).
