Default Why Pay Extra Rake? ( Low content)

I wasn't in this hand, but I found it very funny. 3 Players capping the nut straight on the board.

Pokerroom 1/2 5 Max
Hero is Button with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Pre-Flop

UTG Folds, CO limps, Hero Folds, SB Completes, BB Checks

Flop : A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 10 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

SB Checks, BB Bets, CO Calls, SB Calls

Turn: Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
SB Bets, BB Raises, CO Calls, SB Calls

River J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
SB Bets, BB Raises, CO Calls, SB 3-Bets, BB Caps, CO Calls

Nice to see them all donating extra money to the rake.

I think capping on that board is the right strategy at PokerRoom 1/2. I had saved this hand:

[ QUOTE ]

Texas Hold'em $1-$2 (real money), hand #125,357,933
Table Aarhus, 16 Apr 2004 09:16 PM

Seat 1: xeagle1 ($107.75 in chips)
Seat 2: joeydh ($11 in chips)
Seat 3: DJSchubes [ 10H,4D ] ($53.75 in chips)
Seat 5: milmike0714 ($4 in chips)
Seat 8: zeppo1 ($12.75 in chips)

ANTES/BLINDS
milmike0714 posts blind ($0.50), zeppo1 posts blind ($1).

PRE-FLOP
xeagle1 calls $1, joeydh folds, DJSchubes folds, milmike0714 calls $0.50, zeppo1 bets $1, xeagle1 calls $1, milmike0714 folds.

FLOP [board cards 10C,KC,JD ]
zeppo1 checks, xeagle1 bets $1, zeppo1 calls $1.

TURN [board cards 10C,KC,JD,AH ]
zeppo1 checks, xeagle1 checks.

RIVER [board cards 10C,KC,JD,AH,QS ]
zeppo1 bets $2, xeagle1 folds.

SHOWDOWN
zeppo1 wins $8.75

[/ QUOTE ]

What was so funny to me was that the guy almost timed out 'thinking' before he folded.

I've also seen someone fold in this situation.

I see this a lot actually. Usually I give a shout out so we don't just waste money to the rake, but the low levels I'm at are full of players who just love thinking they're "real poker players!" and "tricky," so even after I say it, I still see people betting anyway, as if they're really going to force anyone out of the pot. Some people are just hopeless.

I'm with you. I've seen it for 1 bet before, but what made this so comical, IMO is that they kept it going. After the bet, raise and call, you'd think they would be smart enough to realize no one is leaving.

I've seen some pretty stupid things at the table, especially live, that made me decide to never stop betting the nuts for any reason. (except fear of being quartered, which is impossible in holdem)

I actually folded someone out of a 10-20 live pot which was over $400 on the river. The board was broadway and the guy apparently had a set. When the river card hit, I said "I hit my straight, I bet!" The guy looked at the board, looked at me, said "If you have a straight, my hand can't be good." and mucked his hand.

I didn't have to chop this pot. That's a lot of 'extra rake'. I've also seen people who misread their hole cards or the board thinking they have a straight or FH and betting like they have it. I will raise with the nuts every time on the end, until no more raising can be done.

the max rake was already paid, so this didn't cost anyone anything.
