The lure of Martingale . . . (LC)
I am an idiot.
I occasionally play on Paradise, and the evil, evil bastards have just added a Blackjack table . . . all you have to do is click on the little icon while you're playing poker there, and poof!, a Blackjack table opens up, min bet 0.50, max $300. Now I know a little something about statistics, and I know that Martingaling is a sure road to utter and complete doom. I ALSO know that the chance that a given shot at a table is 99%+ sure to NOT mean certain doom. And what, am I supposed to be afraid of a less than 1% risk of ruin? What am I, a pussy? So I tell myself "I can . . . probably . . . beat the system. I'll just play this ONE time, no other, make $5 or $10 bucks, and then run like hell. I'll almost certainly be just fine." Well, it worked the first time. Lost a little money playing 1/2 Crazy Pineapple, thought it'd be good to end the day at Paradise even. Worked the second time I tried it, too. Worked the third as well. Hasn't been a fourth try yet . . . YET. But knowing my general level of stupidity, there will be. Just thought I'd share that I'm a moron. Perhaps this will shame me into not taking any more shots. |

Re: The lure of Martingale . . . (LC)
I just wanted to commiserate, Grisgra. That little blackjack icon is pissing me off. I play in the PLO tournaments at Paradise regularly and when I get bored now instead of posting here or focusing on the other tables I have going I end up playin frickin BJ. Those sneaky bastards are making a mint off of that simple little add-on.

Ha ha ha, stupid bastards, I've shown the superiority of Martingale! (Nicely won with my double-down or a blackjack on my last hand a couple times). *resists urge to try it one 'last' time* |

Re: The lure of Martingale . . . (LC)
My Martingale experience....... Very experienced gambler(Atlantic City), first night ever in Las Vegas, up 960 bucks... ok, i need 40 more and I can go to sleep..... Plan: on a practically 50/50 proposition, bet 40, if i lose bet 80, if i lose bet 160, if i lose bet 320, if i lose stop and think about it....... won on the second bet, went nighty night with round 1000 profit............well, it meant something to me at the time

Re: The lure of Martingale . . . (LC)
I recently tried the martingle on a blackjack switch bonus. I was down $200 from the main bonus (it was a sticky) and I didn't have much more to lose. So, I started with two $10 bets and saw where I went.
It gets exciting when you have to play $300/hand (because you can't get to $320) and you get to split or double down. That's also when you make a huge score (if you hit your cards). Ran it from Just under $500 to just over $1400 in about an hour. Withdrew, left the $200 bonus in there (sticky 2), Martingled it up to $500, thought about withdrawing, but put the witdraw limit at $1000. Then proceeded to lose the $500 in about 5 min. (move my baseline bet to $5/hand for that run.) It spins wildly out of control very quickly. $5 10 20 40 80 160 320 (you don't really have enough room to work if you can't go over $300) It sure was fun though. |
