Why are you in a 3-handed game where the only soft spot is 'mediocre'? Honestly, I'm just curious.
Also, I don't think I like it. If he took the free card, he most likely doesn't like his hand. The turn and river don't help any possible holdings. What makes you think he won't just take the free showdown? If you bet, you're not likely to be called often, but I think you'll get a call more often than button betting the river. Then again, I play passive 3/6 so the thinking could be very different.

given that it isnt HU, I dont like it. Against a guy that didnt have the sack to bet the turn with his holding here, I really dont get excited about putting my faith in him that he value bets the river

I don't like getting fancy here. I would cap the flop and lead turn. 6 turn cards can destroy your action, and a board pairing turn card can make you pretty uncertain about where you stand. Also no one is going to fold and you will probably still be raised again by most two pairs/sets.

If button bets, SB is calling with any pair, and then when I CR, button will certainly call with anything that he bet (other than a bluff), and by that time the pot will be so big and sb will be so confused that he will probably call again too. That was my thinking anyways. FWIW, I put button on exactly a weak ace.
