First Time Aussie poster with forum lingo question
Greetings All,
I am a SSHE player known to frequent the Crown Casino in Melbourne Australia. I do ok following the basic advise in WLLH but I have more advanced study material "in the mail." I have been studying the information on these excellent forum board for a few days now and at the same time fomulating a few questions to post. Right now I am stuck with a little short hand terminology used on the forum. To wit can someone advise the meaning of these terms/acromyns, they don't seem to figure in the poker language at this time in Australia. We seem to be a year or two behind the USA in all things poker. (Hint, hint... ;-) So what's the deal with: LAG LPP LA-N (post flop?) I'm tipping that the "L" is for "LOOSE" but go ahead, surprise me. Also what does "CO" mean in relation to position? Is there a reference somewhere that I overlooked? Thanks for any assistance. I look forward to being ablt to understand what I'm reading. ;-) -Jim |

Re: First Time Aussie poster with forum lingo question
L=Loose
A=Aggressive; Loose + Aggressive is LAG P=Passive N-Neutral The first letter refers to how many hands a person plays preflop (Loose or Tight) The middle refers to how often they raise preflop The last is usually referring to Overall aggression (how often they bet/raise vs check/call) as determined by PokerTracker CO= Cutoff; the seat to the right of the button |

Re: First Time Aussie poster with forum lingo question
The best advise is to learn the search function. When you input words to search for use the + - feature.
I found the above link by inputting +acronym -"re:" and searching the entire Texas Hold'em folder for the past three years. It defaults to one week. |

Re: First Time Aussie poster with forum lingo question
Wow Kwaz, what a surprising question. I thought it was just all USA'ians on this forum.
You must be local yourself. Yes it is an hour drive from Geelong to Melbourne (thanks to the speed cameras!) I was doing it three times a week a couple of months ago. I have just got back into it from a break and hope to be there all night Tonight and again Saturday. I am looking to move from the 4/8 to the 6/12 tables soon. I have some more advanced study material in the mail that I want to commit to memory before I do. If you are a local maybe I can buy you a beer for your help. -Jim |

I'm new to the system, but I've already noticed the term 'donk' all over the forums, used as both noun and adjective. I kind of got the sense of what it means, but I'm looking for the "official" definition...

Re: First Time Aussie poster with forum lingo question
There is a few Aussies on the boards and just as many poms. I used to live in Melbourne (I'm from Brisvegas).
I'm living in NZ now (where the casinos lick balls) and travel to Crown every few months for a week or two of poker. I'm over for two weeks in early Feb. Private message (PM) me if you want to catch up for that beer. |
