Opinions - Vegas biz trip
I am taking 3 employees at my magazine with me to Vegas the week of MAGIC International - Aug 28-Aug 31st. The best rates we can find (Poker room rates don't count this time I'm afraid) are at the Imperial Palace and the Flamingo. My employees are rather fussy, they don't want to stay anyplace that is not comfortable or close to transportation (Monorail). Internet service is mandatory, wireless or wired doesn't matter.
What would you chose considering these options and why? I doubt any of them will be gambling, but they will probably be hitting the town for the many events that happen during the trade show. TT |

Re: Opinions - Vegas biz trip
gaming details aside, the flamingo is larger, not as "ghetto", and is owned by a large corporation (Caesars/Harrah's) and not an aging family trust. and the Flamingo pool is probably the best of all the low-mid priced hotels on the strip.
you will most likely have better corporate amenities like internet at Flamingo as well. still best to call in advance though. both resorts have their own monorail stations. finally, the Flamingo has good history via Bugsy Siegel and whatnot. your workmates will have more to rave about when they get home as opposed to staying at the lesser-known IP. |

Re: Opinions - Vegas biz trip
Both of these have monorail stops behind the hotel, neither of their web sites list in-room high speed Internet access. The rooms at Flamingo will be better for fussy people, if just because there is zero chance of getting one of the goofy IP rooms in a shabby hall that people take on the way to auto collection, parking lot, etc.
How about Bally's? There is a monorail stop and in-room Internet access available. |

Just did the research, IP has in room wireless internet now. The Flamingo only has Web TV. The team stays at IP - case closed. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Opinions - Vegas biz trip
I just stayed at IP over the weekend and it was HORRIBLE. Dirty, nasty and the casino smelled like ass all the time (worst smelling casino I have ever been in). I would recommend anywhere bu there.
For anyone else that doesn't know, the Golden Nuggett downtown had excellent rooms that are top notch. Most people know the casino is old (although very nice) and they think the rooms are probably not that nice. The rooms are top notch though and rated 5 stars by many publications and rightfully so. Regular room was $99 a night and it was over the weekend even. I usually split my time between Paris on the strip and GN downtown. |

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks. As I was about to book the room we found an amazing package rate via America West with the San Reno hotel. 3 days & nights plus airfare to and from NYC is on $385! A steal, and as my good buddy pointed out, walking distance from the MGM poker room for me TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Re: Opinions - Vegas biz trip
San Remo might be slightly better than the IP, but probably not by much. better check them about internet access as well. they are being bulldozed and converted to a "Hooters" theme casino opening February 2006. pre-construction just started last month I believe.

Re: Opinions - Vegas biz trip
Our company stays at the Hilton during MAGIC. The rooms are OK, but the nice part is you can walk to the Convention Center, staying inside for all but about 50 feet. And you're right near the monorail. But, of course, you're off the strip.
No matter where you stay, Vegas is crowded, hot and yecchy during MAGIC in August. Be prepared for long cab lines. Make your restaurant reservations well in advance. |
