A hand similar to Adanthar\'s 99 conundrum
This hand happened well into the $$$ in a 500 person $30 MTT
I forget how many are left, 2 tables I think. What's your move? Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t3000 (9 handed) converter SB (t22625) Hero (t15894) UTG (t57469) UTG+1 (t21605) MP1 (t14296) MP2 (t17681) MP3 (t24903) CO (t36707) Button (t33992) Preflop: Hero is BB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 3 folds, MP2 raises to t6000, MP3 calls t6000, CO calls t6000, 2 folds, Pot is ~22,000 when it gets to me I have just under 13,000 left. Re: A hand similar to Adanthar\'s 99 conundrum
i'd call and flop a set. your push won't be very big, so you might get 4 way action, which would suck. and unlike the 99 hand, you have no chance of being ahead. but you almost have express odds right now to call for set value, so do that. it'll suck a little to get down to 2.6x bb's after your SB, but you're not totally devoid of FE when that happens.

Re: A hand similar to Adanthar\'s 99 conundrum
Interesting spot. I've only recently begun playing MTTs, but I'd call here and check/fold if you miss. That might seem weak/tight but the pot is big and if you happen to hit, you've got serious implied odds. You don't have much folding equity if you push preflop, I'd expect 2 callers. You're going to have to take a stand relatively soon one way or another...and for t3000 you stand a chance to get yourself quite comfortable. If you miss, you have 9-10 hands to make a stand.

Yes, its important to flop a set here.

Re: A hand similar to Adanthar\'s 99 conundrum
There is t22500 in the pot and you have to call t3000, so you are getting immediate odds of exactly 7.5:1. Thus you cannot fold purely on set value. Your stack is too small to get anyone to fold preflop, and with 3 opponents just flatcalling it is likely that someone has a bigger PP. So you cannot raise.
Thus, this is a clear call, but it's very important to actually flop your set |

Results/Thoughts
Everyone says call.
I really thought that if I called and missed/folded that it would be too weak of a move. I now think a little differently. I will still have some (but not much) FE if I fold. At the time I thought that my stack, while small in BB's still had significant FE since they would have to call off most or 1/2 of their stack to see a flop, so I pushed, expecting at least 1 caller. I really expected MP2 to push over top. I agree that a push is *probably* wrong here, definitely wrong in a buyin higher than $30. I think the CO called out of amazement that the other two folded and he didn't want me to steal the whole damn thing. MP2 said he had 66 after the hand. Re: Results/Thoughts
lol...nh
Yeah, that's a good play given the buyin. After having slept on it I still think a call is best in the Super hand but given this...yeah, never overestimate Party donks. |

Re: Results/Thoughts
This is an incredible result to pushing from the BB. I would take this flip everytime with the amount of chips in the pot and the size of the blinds. But I think calling and possibly pushing a non paint flop would work also. Don't forget if you call and fold, you only have 3xbb left...this sucks.

Re: A hand similar to Adanthar\'s 99 conundrum
any thought to folding and seeing what the next orbit brings? i mean flopping a set here would be monster but is 2.6 BB really enough FE to do anything next orbit?
