Default Remote broken...TV now useless?

Yes, the Dish remote control is busted.

I have fabricated a "new remote control", using a yard stick with a few pencils taped to the end of it. Of course, being the smart guy that I am, I put the eraser end of the pencil at the end of the "new remote" so I do not damage the Dish box.

The problem is that the buttons on the Dish box are too stiff and the box slides to the back of the entertainment center when pushed by the "new remote", thus rendering the Dish box out of reach of the "new" remote control.

The only solution is to fabricate yet another "new and improved remote" that will extend to the back of the entertainment center, but that would make the "new and improved remote" rather unwieldy, requiring both hands for coordinated use. Of course this makes the "new and improved remote" rather inconvenient for porn use.

It would also require an angled attachment to reach deep within the entertainment center and I do not have the necessary materials to fabricate such a sophisticated device (no wire hangers here - only plastic ones).

I guess my TV is now totally useless.

Buy a new remote.

Two solutions.

First, you can utilize your stick if you drill a hole through the box and affix it to the front of the entertainment with a bolt. Duct tape probably wouldn't cut it. You'd probably have to open up the box to find a good space to drill through, avoiding any circuits, etc.

You could also get a much longer set of wires and bring the box out to you. This is probably what I would do.

If this is a parody of the broken microwave thread, it's okay. If it's not a parody, I'm sad.

This is not a parody of the microwave thread. I just read that thread and can see the resemblance (both concern household appliances). Obviously the microwave question could have been solved with a three word answer: use a grill.

Until a new remote control arrives, my TV is useless, no?

Pretty much. Going up to change the channel is terrible.

It's not nice to make fun of me just because I don't know how to cook without a microwave or something with instructions on the box.

Oops. I thought this was a parody too, hence my pointless and sarcastic suggestion to "buy a new remote."

Yeah, your TV is useless until then.
