Default general flop play when flopping big

my friend was playing a big tournament online. With 5 limpers, he completed in the SB with K 10 off. flop came K 10 6, 2 diamonds, and him being UTG, checked planning to check raise. He ended up losing the hand when everyone checked the flop and someone turned a set of deuces....in general with so many people in the hand, is it generally same to play planning to check raise, or is it a smarter play to bet out on the flop.

Depends on the texture of the board, with a 2 suited board and a large field you must bet. You can't let someone draw out on you for free.

Against a smaller field with a complete ragged board you can sandbag some.

The players you are up against depend alot to, against aggressive players who bluff you alot you may wanna bet out, knowing they will bluff you and then you raise em big on the flop, or check raise the snot out of them on the turn.

ALso what's your table image? If you have a VERY tight table image when you bet people are going to be scared and fold. If you have been playing lots of hands loose and wild (ala Gus Hansen) even when you flop the nuts you get action because nobody believes you.

Despite what anyone may tell you, blinds and stack sizes never matter.

Easy fold IMHO.
