Default Small suited connectors on the button shorthanded?

Ok, so one thing I'm still struggling with is if I should be calling with a small suited connector on the button for one bet when the pot is shorthanded. Ex. Full game, one player limps in early position, another one in middle, folded to me with a hand like 68s on the button. Am I calling? What if there was just the middle position limper and it was folded to me? Are these hands playable when your implied odds suck? I know the type of game might be a factor but assume its an unknown mid-limit game that you just joined. You have no info on the limper(s). What about small pairs in the same situaton? Just a decision that comes up semi-frequently and I need some feedback on how to handle it. Any advice is appreciated.
