Default 3-bet by TAG preflop, scary board.

Villian is a TAG, very aggressive.

Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">CO 3-bets</font>, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, Hero calls.

Flop: (7.50 SB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">CO bets</font>, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.75 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">CO bets</font>, Hero calls.

River: (6.75 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="#CC3333">CO bets</font>, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 8.75 BB

Preflop is standard.
The flop is scary, but I need to see the river because of my straight draw. The flop looks very good for a 3-bettor, he could have AK QQ JJ TT.

How do you play the river? Checking and calling like I did looks very very passive. But how would you play it?
Bet and call a raise? It could make him fold a busted hand like 88 or 99 which he might fire one last bullet with.
I think he will valuebet most hands which he would call a bet with. Check/raising and calling a 3-bet doesn't look good to me.

Thoughts?

Seems clear you want to show down once that river card hits. Is that right?

I agree with your line, because your best chance of getting an extra bet out of a losing hand is to have him bluff a busted draw or underpair at you, hoping you have a busted draw yourself.

Guy.

I would bet the river and call a raise, but I yield to Rory.
