Default Dealing with posters.....

One poster in Hijack, one poster in Cutoff

Hero is UTG+1 with As8s, 9 handed 15/30.

Preflop: UTG folds, Hero raises?????

I'll post the rest of the hand later. Thoughts on this raise?

I don't like it. This seems like a great limping opportunity. Usually we don't play Axs in EP because we're unsure that the pot will be multi-way for 1 bet, the best scenario for Axs -- if we flop a 4-flush, we have the nut draw and at least one overcard. Posters will check their random awful hands and raise their good ones, so you don't want to get caught in a 3-way pot for 2 bets with a dominated hand.

Raising will also not get the posters to fold -- I've found they generally call with looser standards than they would from the BB (since they have position), so you're not going to isolate anything.

It is a common misconception that you should raise lighter with posters. The presence of posters should cause you to tighten your raises up from a game theory standpoint (you will take down the $$$ in the middle less ofen then you will had no one posted). Obviously you would raise if people give up their posts too often, but the general idea is that you shouldn't play looser against posters if they haven't acted yet. Once they have checked their option you might want to play looser, but certainly not when they are still to act.

Eh, it's not that bad. I open A9s there and don't feel that it's any significant mistake.

I'd probably limp though and encourage a limpfest.

don't like it...seems like you lucked into a situation to play A8s up front, why blow it? You got a multi-way pot for your Axs. Isn't this a hand you want to see a cheap flop with?

What if it was folded to me in MP1 (one more spot)? What about MP2 (two spots, one before posters)?

I think that raising standards should be tightened in front of posters.

This is a hand that likes lots of limpers seeing the flop cheaply.

I think this is wrong. I read it in some book that you should find raises more, I'll try to find it and post it here.
