It\'s official, I suck 3-handed (Low content)
[pointless rant]
So I'm playing 2 tables, playing very solid and confident. One of the tables I am at is just perfect. I have a bluffing, overaggro LAG on my right, lots of tighties willing to fold to my raises on the left, and a loose-passive across from me. I'm up about 30BB when the two tighties leave, leaving me, the LAG, and the loose-passive to play. I got pwned. Albeit my hands sucked and the LAG hit a runner-runner or two, but I just got freakin outplayed. Calling down with A-high and getting beat way too often, turn c/r's taking me for extra BB's left and right. I left with tail between my legs and holding onto the last 3BB to leave me in the green for the day. I thought it would be good experience. Turns out it was a great lesson in table selection. 3-handed can have some MASSIVE swings. When you hit the flop, you win a ton. When you miss, you lose a lot.

I have a lot of trouble playing 3handed when the button folds and I'm left in the SB with a weak/moderate holding. I never know if I should raise and play OOP, just fold, or what.

Happy Pooh Bah to me! |

You gotta review your hands later. It is so easy to feel like you got outplayed after losing a bunch playing very shorthanded. I know you know about being objective, but

Which seat order do you prefer 3-handed vs the lag and the loose-passive ?

Re: It\'s official, I suck 3-handed (Low content)
I really like LAGs on the right, I like weak-tighties on my left, I slightly prefer TAGs on my left, and I'm a mainly indifferent to loose-passives, but if they're really bad I'll want them on my right.
So in answer to your question, LAG on the right. |

Re: It\'s official, I suck 3-handed (Low content)
This is kinda hard to formulate, but I think you are in a pretty crappy spot when the lag has the button, you have the SB and the loose-passive have the BB as it will be raised alot and the BB will probably call more than he should if you 3bet. Ofcourse you can start coldcalling alot, but some hands would play alot better HU.
If you put the loose-passive on the button when you are in the small blind, then he will openlimp often, making more of your hands profitable to play and reducing positional disatvantage as it will be 3way and he probably is easier to read aswell. When he folds you would ofcourse prefer to have position on the BB, is that so much better that you are willing to put an overaggro player in position to raise your small blind every 3. hand ? Does it make much difference who is in what blind when you have the button ? |
