Default 1st experience at Borgata

Yesterday I stopped at The Borgata. This was my first time playing poker there, I've played blackjack there before. The only other time I've played poker in a casino was in Vegas at the Stardust earlier this year.

The Stardust didn't go great. I was not prepared and every one was a prop player. I was also as nervous as could be. But I learned a bit and got a 1st experience out of it.

Since then I've been reading a bit and using the Wilson software. Bookwise I've read the Lee Jones' Winning Low limit Hold 'em, Krieger's Hold 'em Excellence, and Ed Millers Getting Started in Hold 'em.

The Borgata went great. I instantly got on a $2-$4 table. I was nervous, but felt fine. Made a couple of stupid mistakes, but no worse than others at the table. I came out exactly even after 3 hours, including rake, tip to the drink girl and parking. So I guess that was good. I was good at not playing rags and may have been playing too tight. A few players seem to play pretty loose.

I think I could be more aggresive when I know I have a good hand. I missed a few opportunities to really maximise my hand. I also need to read the flop better. I did adjust my play for position, which was good. Learning to read other people is also a skill I need to develop, but I assume that is common for a beginner.

But I think overall the thing to do is to really know what hands to start with and how to handle post flop play. I also need to go more often and get experience.

I was happy when I left.

Any advice on which of the books I have, or don't have, I should concentrate on? Any advice in general?

Thanks,

Reid

Reread Small Stakes Hold 'em until it falls apart.

Buy Theory of Poker and repeat the above process likewise.

Glad you had a good time. Just curious, how long did you have to wait for a 2-4 table. I imagine it was a very long time if you showed up in the afternoon.

There was a spot when I got there, I arrived around 4 PM.

Towards 6 PM they started getting rid of the other $2-$4 table.

You did not mention how the waitresses looked.

Hot in a stripper kind of way. Luckily I have mastered the ability to observe her in early middle and late position.
