Brain drain - it\'s our own damn fault.
So many Universities hire professors that intentionally design their classes to make you fail. The US has a brain drain and it's our own damn fault.
I can't tell you how many classes I've sat in where the professor said 30% of you will fail. Some of those classes were taught well and people deserved to fail. Others weren't that hard. Data structures for example required each homework (computer program) to be built on top of the next. If one homework couldn't be completed by yourself, you were screwed. Office hours had computers but you couldn't log into them. It was a joke. Currently finishing a high level stats class and the book is so bad that there is no way it's unintentional. Rant over. |

If you think the US has a strict university system try doing study abroad dude, go to Asia.
They don't even treat thier students like human beings. |

Re: Brain drain - it\'s our own damn fault.
It depeds on how the professor grades, if they use a bell curve (which most dont) then a certain amount of people will fail but not 30%. Maybe the professor just said that so you guys might actually study for the start of the class rather than cram at the end of the class for the final.
Also many text books are horriable, thats why I learned not to depend on them. |

In fact, I think it is just the opposite, as evidenced in the grade inflation phenomenon. In fact, in all my academic career (Eng. PhD student now), I have never attended a class where more than 1 or 2 of the most grossly incompetent/lazy people were ever failed. |

I think Wacki just got some particularly tough professors. Or he's telling the educational equivalent of a bad beat story. -ptmusic |

Hot natural sciences / engineering fields are designed to flunk you. All other majors are designed to float you along with the Gentleman's B.

[/ QUOTE ] This is happening in the UK at every level of education, don't try to tell anyone though, it's undermining the hard work of todays students and school-children. The mind boggles how people can be so much cleverer than they were 30 years ago especially with all the tools and resources they have available, they ahrdly have to actually think for themselves at all.
