general AK pf question
this is a general question and not about a certain hand (although the question came to mind after playing a certain hand)
you get AK in mp and a solid utg raises 4x bb and someone in ep calls - all others fold to u in mp w/ probly around 3 more to act (not including blinds) do you raise to isolate and discourage a multiway pot or call since AK is no good unless it hits? I know they both have pros and cons, but which outweighs the others (+EV?) |

Re: general AK pf question
It depends on my reads of the UTG guy. If he's tight, I'm afraid of a big pair, so I might just throw it away. If not I'll reraise. You'll isolate, and you'll have position. So even if you miss the flop, you represent a strong hand, so you could take it down with a continuation bet. I never call in that situation though. It's too passive for me, and I won't necessarily feel comfortable flopping a K.
If he reraises you preflop, get the hell out of there! |

Re: general AK pf question
I don't re-raise AK pre-flop without a reason to do so. Possible reasons might be:
-The original raiser is really bad post-flop. -The original raiser raises more than 10% of his hands. -The original raiser will fold non-premium hands to a re-raise, and one of the cold-callers is really loose/bad. -The table is extremely passive or extremely aggressive. |
