I need some rule assistance.
While playing ina home game tonight, we had a couple of issues. One was about showing your cards when everyone folds. How does the 'show one, show all' rule work? If a guy bets and everyone folds, then he shows his cards to someone not playing, does he have to show them to the table? We had a guy say they didn't have to in the WSOP, and another guy said he had to when playing in a live casino once.
OK, second situation. We are on the bubble. Short stack folds and the two other guys are about 50/20 in chips. We get a board like this: J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] The shorter of the two guys check and the other guy says "we should just both fold and split". There is a fair sized pot and It might have hurt the shorter of the two. I said no, you have to show it down and the big stack got pissed ans gave me the 'lighten up, it's just a home game' song and dance. I think that hand could have changed the outcome of the tourney. Am I completely out in left field? Is there a place to get these questions answered? I know poker is a crazy game with many situation that can arise, and I would like to have a rulebook to clear some of these things up. I am going to cross this in the general forum too. Thanks, Ben |

Re: I need some rule assistance.
about "show one show all":
if you show your cards to someone who is not playing in the game at all, then i don't think anyone else has the right to see. if you show your cards to someone in the game, then everyone has the right to see. about the second thing: how the heck did 6 cards get to be on the board? oh well, anyway if you were playing a cash game this kind of deal making would probably be ok, but not in a tournament. it's obvious you can't do stuff like that. a hand has to be played to the showdown. |

Re: I need some rule assistance.
How were there 6 cards? If someone accidentilly dealt a 6th card, it would not play. Except for in holdemplus, the exciting new game of skill and chance.

Re: I need some rule assistance.
Ok sorry. Take away the 6. I don't remember the excact cards, but there was 2 pair on the board and another low card. I think it was an 8. I guess the thing that really pissed me of was I told them they had to show them down and they went ahead and split anyway. I guess I felt a little disrespect, beings how it was my house. It's hard to enforce house rules when there really aren't any set in stone. I guess I gotta find a rule book.
Thanks, Ben |
