Default BLIND PLAY

Hello all,

I have recently started using Poker Tracker and I am finding very large holes in my game that I never would have seen.

One potentially major issue (maybe) is blind play.

I have about 3K hands in the database (a good start) and it is showing that I am playing a good / solid tight agressive game with a V$IP of about 16% and an AF of 1.91. When I look at the blind numbers, I see that I am only keeping about 50% of my investment from the BB and 33% of my investment from the SB. My folded SB to steal is 74% and BB to steal is 93%, but when I look at the actual hands, a large portion of them are junk.

Is this an "acceptable" amount of mucking these hands? I don't have enough info on other players yet to be able to see who is "stealing", but playing low / micro limits, I do believe that even if I reraise to "punish" I am going to at least get called, and there is a decent chance I am going to lose even more.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

High blood sugar gets you in 20 years, low blood sugars get you today.

I'm not an expert but I believe 3k hands is definitely not enough to start analysing blind stealing.

Fammy,

To look at something as specific as VPIP from blinds, you need at least ten times as many hands as you have; your numbers aren't even close to converged yet.

Keep playing more hands, and remember that everyone loses money from the blinds. We're losing 5BB/100 from our profit in the BB seat and nobody can make that up in the long term.

You have to think about it this way. Assuming you are allways playing at a full table. After 3K hands you've been in the big blind 300 times and the small blind 300times. Now in micros the chance that it will be folded around and someone will try to steal happens maybe 2-5% of the time (overestimate depending on site). So at most you have 15-20 hands where this was even applicable.

As a side note: Found in the FAQ at the top of the page:
[ QUOTE ]
Steal defense: At the micro limits, this situation occurs very rarely and you will generally not have a significant sample size even after playing 20K hands. It is much better to focus on specific hands for defending situations as its often highly opponent dependent.

Attempt to steal: This situation occurs a bit more frequently than steal defense, but still it will not be too common until you hit the higher end of the micro limits. This number will often be in the mid-upper 30's, but will vary depending on your table selection and overall aggressiveness.

Hello again,

Thanks for the advice. I will keep plugging along and see where it takes me. I think we would all agree that at micro limits, the typical folding equity that might occur normally is almost non-existent, so I will see where I end up as I approach 10K hands.

As for the blood sugar question....what it really means is that I am a doctor, and that in regards to my diabetic patients, they need to be aggressive in taking care of their blood sugars or they will have major side effects way down the road, but if they are TOO aggressive and end up with critically low blood sugars, they will suffer today (a stroke or some other bad reaction). If felt the saying was a good metaphor for poker...you have to be aggressive in your actions or you suffer in the future (your bankroll falls apart), but if you are too aggressive, you may lose your entire bankroll today. Seems appropriate, huh?
