30/60 party. full.
I open raise ATs UTG. LP and button cold call. Blinds get out. Pot: 3.75BBs Flop: K J x raindow. I check. LP checks. Button bets. I call. Pot: 4.75bb. Turn: 8o. I check and call. River: 2o. I check and call. --- Firstly while i'd like quick comments and thoughts about preflop i don't want to turn this into just a preflop arguement. On the flop i don't think i have much folding equity. Pocket pairs and gutshots will call me down. Yet since i'm going to call a bet my folding equity may only need to be tiny depending on the frequency of a raise, which i think is high here. Then turn is close but given i think i have 7 outs the majority of the time and i'm getting about 7:1 with implied odds i like a call. It also wouldn't surprise me to hit a ten and have him check the river and i win a small percentage of the time. Or i could call and he checks the river and i win unimproved. etc etc. River, i am unsure about and it seems i always have trouble making a good guess at players bluffing frequency. Yet given he's on the button and has just been checked to all the hand and may legit have QT 9T AT or some crazy random crap, seems like a call? |

I would muck this one on river. Single QT and some % of pure bluffs don't worth my call and there are plenty if K,J, big pairs hands and even AQo that would bet this river and able to cold call though small to medium PP's often would check as they have some good but not enough to bet SD value and this make my call a bit better but not enough i guess.

You say you don't think you have much fold equity on the flop, but unless you are against calling stations, I think you have enough to warrant a bet. You did raise UTG after all. If you bet the flop, AK has to be running through their minds as a likely holding for you, or perhaps a decent pocket pair or even AJ. That is, unless they would expect you to check-raise with AK- but you wouldn't do that, would you?
And what are they holding? LP probably has a mid pocket pair, but he could also have a decent suited connector like T9s or something. Button's range of hands I'd imagine is similar, but probably a bit broader because there is already a cold caller in front of him. Either of them would be hard pressed to call with a pocket pair with two face cards on the flop and a bet coming from the preflop raiser. And yes you may get called by a gutshot, but that's not so bad since you're actually ahead in that case. There's also the possibility you got cold called by a good offsuit ace like AQo or AJo, but if you're going to call a bet anyway, it's definetely better to bet this flop IMO. |
