Folding top-pair on the river.
I'm on the button with
A [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] T [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] one middle limper, I raise, and the sb callss. Flop is A [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] 4 [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] SB bets, Limper calls, I raise, everyone calls. Turn is a 8 [img]/forums/images/icons/spade.gif[/img] Checked to me, I bet, all call. River is the Jack [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] Sb bets outs, limper calls, I fold. Comments appreciated. Thanks, -Huh |

Re: Folding top-pair on the river.
I think you made the right play by folding. Had the limper not called I would have called the river when the sb bet out. It would be a perfect bluffing opportunity for him and you are getting around 10 to 1 on your call.
As it was though, the limper called so I think folding was the correct play. |

Re: Folding top-pair on the river.
That was exactly my thinking. I was going to call if the limper didn't call, but he did and I folded the best hand.

Re: Folding top-pair on the river.
That's a good laydown. You likely went from best to third-best with the turn of one card. SB probably bet out his 4-flush on the flop (which completed on the river) and the MP well may have a jack. I would not have overcalled in this situation.

Re: Folding top-pair on the river.
You have to assume that he had 2 diamonds in his hand and was loooking for a free card on the turn, that's why he bet the flop. When the 3rd diamond hit the board he has his flush. The fact that he gets called you should assume that one or both of them has a flush. This may not happen all of the time, but the betting seems to indicate so in this hand.
