The 'Other Poker' Triple Draw Tournament

I just got confirmation from GamesGrid that they can handle triple draw tournaments, so if there is sufficient interest I will organize one as a 'private' tournament for 2+2 Other Poker posters (and any other suck--- err, friends we can rope in).

Discuss:

The site: GamesGrid.com. You will obviously need to register for an account to participate. There is a referral program but you don't gain any benefit from having been referred.

The game: Limit Triple Draw 2-7. Sorry, A-5 isn't an option.

Buy in: I was thinking $5 or $10 in the interest of attracting as many players as possible, but I can certainly go higher. I haven't seen them offer any rebuy tournaments so this will probably be just single buy-in.

Date/time: I prefer weekends or evenings U.S. time. We probably want to avoid other popular 'unofficial' 2+2 events like the HORSE tournaments. To make it accessible in all US time zones something like 9 or 10 pm Eastern time is best. It will likely be next week (Aug 8-13th) sometime.

Levels: The initial announcement about private tournaments said we could specify starting chips and lengths of levels (although the email I got from the coordinator did not have this as one of the questions.) Preferences if we do get to choose?

We're currently coding rebuy capabilities for the Rec.Gambling.Poker RGP Open, but it's not available yet.

Levels & starting chips can all be specified to fine detail; we'll customize your tourney to whatever you decide you need/want for starting chips and levels.

I'm in for most any time.

I would prefer Monday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday night, but I can probably make it most nights other than Wed.

9/10pm EST works for me as well.

I would prefer $10-$30 buyin. I'm all for lots of play, and would say design a slow structure and raise the blinds every 20 minutes.

Maybe look at what the WSOP event last year had for a structure?

Aside from having fun and letting one of you more-experienced players take more of my money -- I think a main objective should be to continue to interest other players in the game.

Therefore I think a low $5-$10 buyin is best. I also would suggest that also announcing this tourney on the "Internet Gambling" forum (when scheduled) will bring other players to the table who might not see in the "Other Games" forum.

I can't find the WSOP blind structure for 2004 or previous. The limit events this year had pretty aggressive, probably more than we want given that our levels won't be 60 minutes.

I like 20 minute levels, too. GG doesn't allow you to select your discards ahead of turn, so things go a bit slower than they do at UB or in a non-draw game.

Here's what I'm thinking. $10 buyin, 2000 chips (50 big bets) to start. It costs 3.5 BB to see a typical hand through to the end, we don't want to reach the point where that is an all-in during the first hour.

At 24h the structure is 10 minute levels, 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 150/300, 200/400, 300/600, 500/100, 700/1400, 1000/2000. This is somewhat more aggressive than I like (although it makes it easy to take lots of chips from clueless players.)

Also, I would like to be done in about 4 hours. If we get 25-50 players, that's 50K-100K chips. So given the 3.5 number the last two players would have to commit to a hand when the big bet is 7-14K.

Here's my idea, which tries to allow lots of play but still finishes in 4 hours. (Less with fewer players, obviously.)
It also uses both 1/2 and 2/3 blind structures to mix things up a bit, but no antes.

We certainly want a slower blind structure than what 24h is using. I think 24h just slapped their basic limit blind structure onto the TDL tourneys and I don't think it works well, besides for quickly clearing the dead money. But one mistake or piece of bad luck kills you.
