Live Straddle @ Foxwoods
Ok, so I was at Foxwoods on Sunday and an interesting situation came up. I'm in middle position in a tight $2/4 game (my table selection sucked that day) and a loose-but-reasonable-postflop player throws out $4 UTG before the cards are dealt. The dealer screams out "LIVE STRAD00L!" as he's dealing, and I'm thinking this will be good to get this table going a bit. It's folded to me, and I look down at my cards and see A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], so I 3bet. Weak-tight player on my immediate right throws out four bets, and it folds to the UTG who looks at his cards and folds. It comes back to me and I try to throw out a 3rd raise for the round to make it 5 bets, and am scolded by the entire table. Eventually the floor is called and he tells us that the straddle counts as the first raise in the round and that I cannot make it 5 bets. So we go to the very ragged flop (something like 8 or 9 high), I bet and get called. Turn is another blank, I bet and tight guy folds AKo face up.
My question is whether the straddle counts as the first raise in the preflop round or not? Is a cap 4 or 5 bets on a straddle round? Last week I had a dealer allow 5 bets preflop on a straddled hand, and I'm fairly sure I've had a floor person allow it before. Anyone know for sure? |

Re: Live Straddle @ Foxwoods
I think more often than not, the straddle does not count as a raise, but i've seen it work both ways. Depends on where you are playing, who the dealer is, what the other players think, and who happens to be working the floor.

I've always seen it be 5. [/ QUOTE ] Like I said in an earlier post, I've seen Foxwoods' poker room do some strange things. |

Re: Live Straddle @ Foxwoods
ive seen both ways in the same room -- there is a reservation casino that i play at and there was originally a poker room and it closed --- once the poker boom started it reopened and the rules changes
originally there was a five bet max and the straddle could be straddled -- this raise was also live and could be raised when it came back now there is a four bet and any more straddles are just a blind raise -- and they do not have the option to raise different rooms different rules -- i like the 5bet option cheers |

I have been permitted to 5-bet my own straddle at Foxwoods.

Re: Live Straddle @ Foxwoods
I don't know what the rule is but a while back I 3 bet a straddle from UTG+1 it folded around to the UTG and it went 7 bets preflop since it was heads up. That was fun.

Re: Live Straddle @ Foxwoods
Thanks for the myriad replies to my question. As usual, it will always "depend on who's working the floor" if you decide to push it, since what they say goes. As it was, it might have even worked in my favor here. I held an A, so his chances of having AA were lowered, and he knew I was a tight player, so attempting the 5bet got him thinking that I had a big pair. A far-too-gutsy move for $2/4, but I wanted to get some action on this table...
I'll continue to try to 5bet straddles with my good hands, then, and ask the floor if it becomes a problem. |
