Returning to Legitimacy
In September 2004, I ventured into an NYC poker room for the first time. I was so excited to be able to play live poker so close to where I live and work. Before then, I would travel to AC about four times a year and Vegas twice a year and those were the only times I was able to play poker without the aide of a machine. With poker at my finger tips (and for other personal reasons), I have not journeyed to a legally operated poker room since that time -- actually, my last legit poker room experience was at the Borgota and Taj in early August 2004.
Now, with poker on the retreat in New York and my work schedule becoming more sane, I am planning a few days in Vegas (just before Thanksgiving, if anyone is around Vegas then). So what's new in the world of legit poker? I have always assumed that the tables in NYC were slightly tougher than those in Vegas/AC because there are no true tourists wandering in assuming they can do as well as they do in their home game. Is that true? Is it also true that the floor will kick you in the nuts if you misbehave? I will be staying at either the Palms or the Rio because I can get a room for nothing (or close to it) without committing to playing poker there -- In my former life, I was a craps player and earned some perks while losing a tidy sum of cash. How is the Rio poker room after the WSOP? Is it worth a shot? Is the Palms any better/worse? I suspect I will be wandering over to many other casinos that have been discussed more frequently on this forum... I am open to any comments or suggestions... (NOTE: I KNOW OF NO POKER ROOMS OPERATING IN NYC AT THIS TIME. POKER ROOMS ARE ILLEGAL IN NYC. THAT IS MY STORY AND I AM STICKING TO IT -- SO DON'T ASK!) |

Re: Returning to Legitimacy
useful link
Stick to WYNN and BELLAGIO maybe MIRAGE, for middle limit games. BELLAGIO best of all and highest limits of all too. Only one trip to LV, so take the above with a grain of salt. IMO, the rest of the rooms MUST suck. The above are, at least clean and comfortable. |

Re: Returning to Legitimacy
I've also played in a local B&M here in NYC for quite some time. IMHO, the tables in NYC are definitely tougher than AC/Vegas. Of course you still have fish who will occasionally suck out, but after a while, you can easily spot them as they become regulars.

Re: Returning to Legitimacy
The Wynn is an all around better casino, but the games are so good at Bellagio I'd say it's worth sticking it out with the piece of [censored] locals and bitchy floor people there.
