Default Theoretical boycott idea

Although the boycott thread was stupid, it got me thinking. What do you think of the idea of organizing a 1-day 2p2 "boycott" of a website. The purpose of the "boycott" would be to demonstrate to the website that it is possible for high-volume players to organize and penalize a website for bad policies. This would require a fair amount of advance planning, as well as a parallel track of communications with management and industry/wall street analysts to get everyone focussed on the issue. Then, en masse, all 2p2 players pull the plug for 1 day and see what we can do to their play volume.

A few problems come to mind:

1. There is a short-term incentive for TAGs to cheat on the boycott. Tables on the day of the boycott would be very juicy.

2. Management might not care, knowing full well that a longer-term boycott would be difficult to keep organized. They might reason that concessions are not necessary because in the longer term, all of the TAGs will return to where the liquidity is.

Anyhow, just an evening thought that occurred to me.

It's an empty threat. They won't possibly believe that we won't play there anymore. And they would be right.

The freerider problem.

Everyone is going to assume that if others are doing the boycotting, they might as well play at the soft tables. Besides what are we supposed to boycott them for? They are free to set their prices as they please. It is called capitalism. Every poker player has the option to take their play elsewhere if they want. If they don't it must mean the pokerroom the players are currently at is doing a good enough job of keeping them there. The poker room knows it, the player knows it.

This is a fantastic idea. When is it happening? I want to make sure I've got the whole day free ... so I can um ... boycott extra hard yeah thats it.

Seriously though something like this isn't going to work I wish it would but I'm afraid just there's too much incentive to cheat with not enough incentive to stick it out.
