Default Why was this thread locked?

thread about not tipping

Was Mat a dealer before working at 2+2? Or is there some other reason it was locked. I don't see anything so offensive n the thread that it should be locked. SIIHP threads aren't locked, but talking about not tipping casino personnel--oh boy, that's blasphemy...

I know this is a private message board and DS, MM, et al can do what they want, but there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to what goes on here.

I locked it b/c that guy was trolling the boards posting that same post in multiple forums. We also lock threads that don't contribute anything to the forum, this topic as been discussed ad nauseum and often devolves into a flame war. If someone wants to have a serious discussion about the issue, that's fine. Things are not only locked for being "offensive." (Whatever that means...offesnive to whom?)

I assure you, there is rhyme and reason applied to all the decisions I make. Feel free to pm me if you ever would like further clarification or an explanation.

I'll say it again. DS posts about god, levitation and his other mid life ramblings contribute nothing. I choose not to read them.

I assume others can choose not to read threads they are not interested in. But that's okay...it must be fun to be king of the message board

You stated: "...was trolling the boards posting that same post in multiple forums". So why not delete those threads that are posted in the wrong forums instead of locking them?

I cannot touch a thread in a forum in which I'm not the moderator. I can only edit/lock/delete posts in the B&M forum. The poster had no intention of having a serious discussion and the thread was not serious. I would lock that thread again without a moment's hesitation, and will continue to lock threads that detract from 2+2 (trolling). That's what we're here for.

Ppl say this all the time. It ignores the reality of the situation. Yes ppl can ignore trolls, but they don't. People take the bait or aren't aware they're responding to a troll yet, and engage the troll. The thread spirals out of control and devolves into a flame war. This happens again and again, and when it does, 2+2 suffers. Moderators were installed partly to resist this and maintain the quality of discourse 2+2 is known for.

there's no question johnny did the right thing.

this guy posted the exact same thing in several different forums.

I believe the thread was still active in the news, views, gossip forum.

To NOT lock the thread after the guy had posted it all those different forums would have just been encouraging more multiple-forum postings.

Moderation on 2+2 is both necessary and worthwhile these days. Keep on doing what you do JBB, you're doing a fine job.

I think that part of the problem was that this guy was an obvious troll. JBB has already given me permission to restart the thread in B&M if I like, as long as I make sure it's constructive. I may do so at some point, but not yet.
