Monotone flops and players checking their hole cards...

...in NL Cash games. I thought I remembered reading about this somewhere, either on here or in a book, but what is the general consensus on this move, is this a re-check to make sure you have the nuts, re-check to see if you have the Ace, or the "I don't have any of that suit do I?" check?
