how safe are 9s on a 10-hi board?
This is from a $55 on PS. We'd only been playing for about 30 minutes, so not much of a read on the villian here except that he wasn't involved in more than a handful of pots so far. I had just won the last hand by PFRing in LP over 2 MP limpers and then betting 2/3 the pot when it was checked to me on the 10-hi flop (suited).
Then this hand comes up: PokerStars Game #2922798424: Tournament #14116248, Hold'em No Limit - Level III (25/50) - 2005/10/29 - 15:31:36 (ET) Table '14116248 32' Seat #8 is the button Seat 1: jrainbow (1485 in chips) Seat 2: foxplayer (2020 in chips) Seat 3: survika mc (1810 in chips) Seat 4: brett66 (895 in chips) Seat 5: the dudester (3195 in chips) Seat 6: sidgucci (2315 in chips) Seat 7: IAmStillHere (3310 in chips) Seat 8: Pat2Tmax (1075 in chips) Seat 9: aps25 (790 in chips) aps25: posts small blind 25 jrainbow: posts big blind 50 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to the dudester [9c 9d] 3 folds the dudester: raises 100 to 150 sidgucci: calls 150 4 folds (including the blinds) *** FLOP *** [2h Th 3d] pot = 375 IAmStillHere said, "I'm gonna rise up" IAmStillHere said, "rise, rise" the dudester: bets 250 sidgucci: calls 250 *** TURN *** [2h Th 3d] [4s] pot = 875 the dudester: bets 650 sidgucci: raises 1265 to 1915 and is all-in the dudester: ??? So now the pot is 1325 and it's costing me 1265 to call. I ran poker stove and see that I'm 50/50 vs AQs+, and 77-QQ. Is this a reasonable range to put the villian on? I have trouble putting him on any set except for 10s because I don't think he calls my PFR with 22-44, and I doubt he calls with a 10 here either (unless its 10/10). I thought maybe he's pushing a strong Ah/xh with 13 outs, and the only hand I'm really afraid of here is Js (because I think he re-raises me PF with QQ-AA. Anybody else disagree with the range I'm putting him on? What's my line here? Call or fold? ts- |

Re: how safe are 9s on a 10-hi board?
That's rough. Instincts tell me he probably has a high ace, and once he saw the wheel draw, got excited about it and figured he'd bluff at it. I dunno what I'd do here, probably fold and figure I am beat, although I'd bet that people bluff at this all the time. My guess is something like AJ of hearts, still, not sure if I could make that call there. I'd fold, final answer.

Re: how safe are 9s on a 10-hi board?
My first instinct is also that he's bluffing with a strong draw. With a high suited ace he's got a lot of outs (although he may not know it) - with the overcards, the hearts, and the straight draw. I'm still 3:2 against Ah/Jh - Ah/Kh. So if you're folding this, you're afraid of something else - what's the range you're putting him on?

Re: how safe are 9s on a 10-hi board?
misread that, he is a tight player. My range is TJs (not hearts obv.) AK-ATs (not hearts), 44, TT, JJ, AJ-AKh, and A5 (maybe, would have been a weak call on the flop, but I've seen stranger calls, but doubtful). You said you doubt he has a T, but he might have had ATs or A5s and decided to see a flop since he may have thought you were a little loose. I take back the 44 though, its very doubtful.

I could easily put him on AT or JTs
