What to do???
I am 1 off the button, early in a tourny(first round) I get dealt QJ suited [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] min raise from UTG+1 next player calls, folded to me.Thought about a re raise but I call.Folded the rest of the way.
flop comes K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG+1 bets 4x BB(cant remember if the blinds were 10\20 or 40\80...cant remember what trny it was....it was a couple days ago,but still eating at me) folded to me.I make it double that to go,he goes allin.(setting me allin If I call) Now I know he has at the min Kx(pos KK) or a flush draw (pos with ace high)also coud have made trips(but not sure, havent been playing long enough to get a good read on the player) what do you do? In my mind I put him on trips or 2 pr(seemed most likely for the situation, but then again you never know what you will get early in a trny) just want some feedback. I called and lost to K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and I did not improve(of course) |

Re: What to do???
given what you say about possible hands opponent might have i would not have raised flop...doubling his bet is pretty weak and gives him the chance to push...given your read of him i would fold this draw which if you make it he might still win (Axs), you are still early in the tourney, i wouldn't be putting in my whole stack with a draw against a player that i think has me crushed...

given what you say about possible hands opponent might have i would not have raised flop [/ QUOTE ] Before I raised the flop I couldnt put him on a hand(or not anything that would help anyway) it was min bet...1 bb. That could mean anything from a small pr to A's(and any concevible hand inbetween)The hands i give as possibles is what is going through my head as the hands i dont want to see if I call...like I said early in the tourney, could be anything. Now the reason for my call on the allin was against my normal thinking.I normally dont put money in a nuthin pot(especially with a drawing hand)and I had not 5 min earlier folded the nut str8t draw that hit after I folded.but for some reason I thought that even if this guy had pocket K's(which he did) I was still almost even to win(still a slight dog, but not by much)I figured that my outs justified the call. Now I figured I had 17 outs (if he had trips unimproved) with pocket k's.8 for the str8t and 9 for the flush(2 of which give me the absolute nuts with a str8t flush) and more if he was on a semi bluff with mid or botttom pr. I am still trying to figure out if this was right or not(at any time during a trny, notjust the beginnning) One more thing..I have only been playing holdem for about 2 months, so i know I am far from the level of most(if not all) of you,and if we were to be in the same game I guess you would see me as weak/tight.I'm trying to work on that and may be another reason why I played the hand the way I did(at this point I just dont know) I am trying to be more aggressive, but i still need to learn when to do it and when to shut it down. |

Re: What to do???
Str8 fulsh draw is a huge hand. You're almost a 60% favorite here over an opponent with pocket KK. Way too much equity to give up unless you're really that much better than everyone else in the tourney. Call.

[/ QUOTE ] In case you didn't notice, his opponent flopped a set, making him a 58% or roughly 1.38:1 favorite over the straight flush draw. |

Re: What to do???
Hi Eskon
If it's been eating at you it's more than likely because you think you should've folded. My only comments are that if it was early enough in the tournie then lay 'em down. You don't have a hand yet (this time you wouldn't have to go through the pain of seeing if you'd suck out as hand would be won there and then if there were no other callers -which helps!!). If it were late in a tourney and I was short stacked then I'd likely push chips in or if it were early in a rebuy I'd likely also push (shows table a loose quality about your game that might pay off later - assuming you plan to rebuy if you lose ). In adding more aggession to your game I always took it from the players here, they were talking more about things like being the one to push/raise (not calling/folding all the time) e.g. not letting your BB be bullied constantly by steal raises. Again, like you I'm here to learn from accomplished players so tread lightly on my thoughts G'Luck stoneii p.s. Just as a point to note, I think there are only 15 outs and not 17 (as two of the str8 cards will be spades). |
