QQ..When to let the ladies go
Typical Party 1/2, loose table with loose cold calls. 4 to 5 seeing most flops.
Party Poker 1/2 (10 handed) Hero has Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and is UTG Hero raises, EP2 calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls Flop(8 SB): 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BB checks, Hero bets, EP2 folds, Button folds, BB raises, Hero 3-bets, BB calls Turn(7 BB): K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] BB bets, Hero calls River(9 BB): T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BB bets, Hero calls When do I give this up. I felt the flop was ok. Should I have raised the turn and layed down to a three bet? I feel fishy just re reading it. Comments appreciated. |

Re: QQ..When to let the ladies go
Brian,
I think you played the hand fine. The check raise on the flop could have meant pocket 9's or 10's. Even pocket 8's. I would have gone to call mode also. Did your opponent have A5 or 45? |

It happens. I do not think you played the hand "wrong". In the heat of battle it often becomes difficult to believe that someone has the hand they represent. Especially calling a raise with 45 suited. Don't worry, over the long haul you will win against this player more often than you lose. |

Re: QQ..When to let the ladies go
I think going into call down mode after a flop check-raise is a bit weak. The BB could just as easily have a decent pocket pair and make this play.

Re: QQ..When to let the ladies go
Hey scot,
I 3 bet for multiple reasons. 1) The BB may just be testing me to see how much I like my hand, when I 3 bet there is a small chance he may fold. 2) When I 3 bet a lot of players would cap this and lead the turn, at that point I can fold. 3) When he calls my 3 bet and C/R me again on the turn I can lay it down then. 4) As Festus said I think calling down to a flp CR is a little weak. |

Re: QQ..When to let the ladies go
Hey Festus:
I think I am with Scot on this one. If there were additional players behind Brian, then I think a 3-bet here is mandatory, but with it heads up, I think going into call down mode is ok. Brian is either way behind or way ahead, but I think that he is intends to see a showdown with this hand. Is he really going to get a lot of action from a worse hand? Does Brian want to make a 88 or TT fold to a turn bet after being 3-bet on the flop? Is Brian going to lay down his hand if the BB plays back at him? IMHO, I think that calling him down is not a weak play here. I am all for aggression, but I am not sure what it is going to get him in this situation. --Rico |
